Recent graduate Durgesware D/O Kannan shares how she overcame setbacks, built her confidence and went on to excel in her studies, leadership and service to the community.
“If anyone encounters problems, do not hesitate to seek help. Remember your goals and work with perseverance!”— Her advice to those facing their own challenges:

Durgesware D/O Kannan, a 2020 graduate of Bukit View Secondary School, was featured in Tamil Murasu for her journey of resilience and growth.
An all-rounder, Durgesware graduated with six distinctions while serving as Head of Engagement in the Student Council Board and Vice-Captain of Floorball.
Her secondary school journey, however, was not always smooth sailing. Despite working hard during her lower secondary years, Durgesware did not achieve the personal targets she had set for herself. With support from her family, teachers and school counsellor, as well as her involvement in Floorball and the Student Council, she gradually rebuilt her confidence and self-belief.
Durgesware also contributed actively to the community through the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES), Singapore Red Cross, and the school’s ground-up initiative, Baked with Gratitude. Her leadership and contributions through CCA were recognised with the EAGLES Award.
As her confidence grew, so did her academic progress. Durgesware eventually achieved O-Level results that exceeded even her own expectations.
Looking ahead, she hoped to pursue Social Work at Nanyang Polytechnic and eventually help others overcome their circumstances and realise their potential.
