■ First Week of School

▸ First Day of School

Once again, a very warm welcome to all new Secondary 1 students to the BVSS family!

We look forward to welcoming your child/guardian to our school on the first day of school on Friday 2 January 2026.

Please ensure that your child/ward reports to the canteen before 7.40 am in BVSS PE T-shirt and brown shorts/ culottes. Our Student Leaders will guide them to find and join their form classes for morning assembly. Students who have not bought their uniforms may report to school in their primary school attire or PE attire.

More details will be provided by the Year Head Mr Lee Jia Hao via Parents Gateway (PG) nearer to the date.

▸ CCA Awareness Days

The objective of the CCA Awareness Days is to provide Secondary 1 students with opportunities to experience different CCAs and make informed choices when selecting their CCA.

CCA Awareness Days will be held during the Secondary 1 Orientation Programme on 2, 5 and 6 January 2026.

▸ Parents’ Engagement Session

The Parents’ Engagement Session provides parents with opportunities to:

• Gain deeper insights into our school’s Vision, Mission, Values, and  approach to the holistic development of Bukit View Secondary through presentations by the Principal and the school’s Executive Committee.

• Connect with Form Teachers to foster stronger relationships.

• Explore ways to enhance collaboration with the school in your child's/ward's education, including participation in school’s activities and joining the Parents’ Support Group.

The Secondary 1 Parents’ Engagement Session will be held on Friday, 9 January 2026, from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm in the school hall.

■ Student Management Matters

■ Personalised Digital Learning Programme (PDLP)

As part of the National Digital Literacy Programme, to enhance teaching and learning through e-pedagogy and personalising students' learning experience, PDLP was launched from 2020. 

In Bukit View Secondary, Secondary 1 students will be using Apple iPad as their personal learning device. Each iPad will come bundled with Apple pencil and casing with smart keyboard to maximise the affordances of the iPad as a learning tool.

■ Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB)

MOE will post students to secondary school through three Posting Groups – Posting Groups 1, 2, and 3. Posting Groups will only be used for the purposes of admitting students into secondary school and to guide the initial subject levels students can offer at the start of Secondary One.

Throughout their secondary school education, students can take subjects at three subject levels, known as G1, G2, G3 (G stands for General), mapped from the previous N(T), N(A) and Express standards respectively. Students will have the flexibility to adjust their subject levels at appropriate junctures, based on their strengths, interests and learning needs. Students will subsequently access programmes and post-secondary pathways based on their various subjects and subject level combinations.

▸ Mixed form classes

Once students enter secondary school, they will be grouped into mixed form classes comprising students from different Posting Groups and will have opportunities to interact and learn with peers of different backgrounds, strengths, and interests.

▸ Offering Subjects at a more demanding Level (MDL)

At the start of Secondary One, eligible students can offer English Language (EL), Mother Tongue Languages (MTL), Mathematics (MA) and Science (SCI) at a more demanding level based on their PSLE Achievement Level (AL) for each of these subjects.

Eligibility criteria to offer English Language, Mother Tongue Languages, Mathematics and/or Science at a more demanding level. 

Offer Letter(s) for eligible students will be sent via Parents Gateway (PG) by Monday 22 December 2025.

Deadline for submission is Friday 26 December 2025.   

For parents whose children are eligible, and have no PG/Internet access, SBB Offer Letters would be ready for collection during school opening hours. Please call the school for more information.

▸ Offering Subjects at a less demanding Level (LDL)

At the start of Secondary One, for students who offered English, Mathematics and/or Science at Foundation level at PSLE, but are otherwise eligible to take most of their subjects at G3 when entering secondary school, they may choose to take these subjects at a less demanding level (i.e., G2), in consultation with their secondary schools.

Students who face exceptional difficulties coping with their Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) will have the option to offer G1 or G2 MTL. At the start of Secondary One, students can offer MTL at a less demanding level based on the following criteria:

SBB Option Letter for students to opt for Mother Tongue at Less Demanding Level will be sent via Parents Gateway (PG) by Monday 22 December 2025.

Deadline for submission is Friday December 2025.

▸Common Curriculum subjects

In their mixed form classes, students will spend around one-third of their curriculum time taking a set of six common curriculum subjects:

These subjects give students more opportunities to interact and learn with classmates of different strengths and interests.

Teachers will adopt a range of teaching approaches to meet the different learning needs and pace of their students in the same form class.

▸ Subjects Offered at G1, G2 and G3

English Language, Mother Tongue Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities subjects will be offered at G1, G2 and G3.

Students will be grouped in different classes based on their subject level for each subject.

■ Information regarding Mother Tongue Matters

▸Higher Mother Tongue (HMT)

▪ Eligibility Criteria:

In line with MOE HMT Eligibility Criteria, Bukit View Secondary offer HMT for students who meets the following criteria:

▪ Students must get either:

PSLE MTL Score of AL1/AL2 or HMTL score of Distinction/Merit

HMT Offer Letters will be sent via PG by 22 December 2025. Parents are advised to read the “Important Information” on the Offer Letters carefully before making a decision. 

Please indicate your response via PG by Friday 26 December 2025. 

For parents whose children are eligible, and have no PG/Internet access, the Offer Letters would be ready for collection during school opening hours. Please call the school for more information.

▸Option to Offer G1 or G2 MTL at a Less Demanding Level

▸Third Languages (L3)

Students who have indicated L3 choices will receive results of your applications via PG by 22 December 2025.

Successful applicants will also receive the registration process together with the results. 

For parents whose children had selected L3, and have no PG/Internet access, please call the school for the application results.

▸ Asian Languages /Foreign Languages / Non-Tamil Indian Languages as MTL in-lieu (AsL /FL/NTIL)

Students who have obtained approval at the primary level are not required to re-apply. They are required to continue offering the approved AsL/FL/NTIL at secondary and pre-university levels. 

The only exception is for Secondary 1 FL students who would like to be on the waiting list to be considered for admission to the MOE Language Centre (MOELC). Should vacancies arise at MOELC, students will be informed to sit for a readiness test. Admission to MOELC is subject to students passing the test. Students who have not been notified to sit for the readiness test or did not pass the test are required to continue with their private study arrangements.  

AsL/FL students will need to provide documentation (eg: marked assignments, result slip, payment receipt) that indicate their private study to their Form Teachers every May. They are to take AsL/FL papers at GCE O Level examinations.

■ MTL Exemption

Students granted MTL exemption from the primary level are not required to submit a re-application.
